Covid-19 Recovery Premium

In November 2020, the government announced the allocation of funds for specific activities aimed at supporting pupils to 'catch up' for lost teaching over the previous months of national lockdown.

At Holmeswood School, we were able to provide a comprehensive programme of remote teaching throughout this period via Google Classroom and Tapestry. Many children benefited from daily maths and English activities, and weekly activities in the majority of other national curriculum subjects.

This year our allocation of £2,000 will not wholly cover, but contribute towards the following:

Identification, assessment and planning.

  • Purchase of materials to rapidly assess pupils' attainment (NfER Key Stage Assessments, IDLCloud, Nelson Single Word Spelling Test and Suffolk Reading Scale assessment).
  • Time for staff to observe and teacher assess needs (both academic and emotional).
  • Time for staff to analyse assessment results and identify those requiring intervention.
  • Time for staff to plan interventions.

£500

Intervention.

  • Additional staffing for 1:1  and small group interventions.
  • Increase Teaching Assistant hours 3x afternoons per week for 1hr per afternoon.
  • Employ a RelaxKids Specialist Teacher for an additional 1hr per week.

£1,000

Resources.

  • Staff training (Confident Me) and purchase of Confident Me resource pack.
  • Subscription to Wordshark, an online spelling/reading intervention resource.

£500

Evaluation.

  • As well as carrying out ongoing, formative assessment of all pupils, staff formally assess children and report to parents at the end of each term.
  • The outcome of termly assessments contribute to a teachers' judgement about whether a child is working above, at, below or significantly below age-related expectations.
  • These judgements will be compared against pre-covid levels to determine the impact of the interventions above.
